Largest Shows: Cars and Christmas

Germany's huge facilities host some of the world's largest international tradeshows. The five biggest shows scheduled in Germany during the third quarter of this year, based on the net exhibit space of the most recent edition of each show, are listed here.
AutomechanikaMesse Frankfurt's Automechanika, scheduled Sept. 16-21, spanned 169,536 net square meters (1.8 million square feet) and attracted 4,583 exhibitors and nearly 160,000 attendees when last held in 2006. The event for the automotive industry features parts, systems, electronics and environmental and recycling concepts.
IAAThe German Assn. of the Automotive Industry will present the 62nd IAA for the commercial vehicle industry in Hannover Sept. 25-Oct. 2. The most recent show, in 2006, covered a record 169,382 net sq. m. (1.8 million sq. ft.) of exhibit space. This year, more than 1,700 exhibitors from 47 countries signed on to take part, compared with a previous record of 1,556 two years ago.
Tendence Autumn + WinterMesse Frankfurt's Tendence Autumn + Winter, a show for Christmas-themed gifts, collectibles and home furnishings, was scheduled July 4-8. For the first time, the show, called Tendence until now, was held earlier in the year under the umbrella of “Decorate Life,” alongside other Messe Frankfurt events, Collectione Preview Spring and Summer and The Design Annual showcase for high-end design. In 2007, Tendence covered 102,830 net sq. m. (1.1 million sq. ft.) of exhibit space.
Caravan Salon DuesseldorfMesse Duesseldorf's Caravan Salon Duesseldorf show for motor homes and trailers will be held Aug. 29-Sept. 7 in Duesseldorf. The annual consumer show's first day is for trade only. Last year, the show spanned 93,355 net sq. m. (1 million sq. ft.) of exhibit space.
spoga + gafaThe spoga + gafa tradeshows for sports, camping, gardening and outdoor living at Koelnmesse spanned 145,477 net sq. m. (1.5 million sq. ft.) when last held in 2006. This year, the shows take place Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in Cologne, with 50,000 attendees and 2,500 exhibitors expected.
