The Plaza Las Vegas project has been postponed. Originally slated to break ground at the end of 2008 and be completed in 2011, the $5 billion casino and condo-hotel project was delayed because of tight credit conditions. To be built on the former New Frontier site, the Clark County Commission last spring approved the project, which includes seven hotel towers with 4,100 guest rooms, 2,600 condo units and a 540,000 square foot convention center. The project was to be a joint-venture between Israeli-based IDB Holdings Corp. and Elad IDB Las Vegas, which paid $1.25 billion for the 35-acre site. The owners plan to go forward with the project some time next year.
The Flamingo recently completed a $425,000 meeting and ballroom space renovation project. Begun in June, the upgrade entailed adding new air walls to meeting rooms and repainting 73,000 sq. ft. of space. The casino-hotel property has 3,565 guest rooms and suites.
Cannery Casino Resorts debuted its second casino in a little more than a year with the recent opening of the Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel. The $250 million development on Boulder Highway in Henderson includes a 16-story, 307-room tower and 20,000 sq. ft. of ballroom and meeting space.
