Your Favorite Team, Forever

Rachel Wimberly -- Tradeshow Week, 11/3/2008

Everyone thinks they know that “there are only two things in life that are certain – death and taxes.” However, thanks to the 2008 Natl. Funeral Directors Assn. Convention & Expo, held Oct. 12-15 at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center, we now know there may be the possibility of a third certainty in the afterlife: You can rest forever in peace with your very favorite Major League Baseball team.

At the national funeral show, a company called Eternal Image unveiled custom-made caskets that can be adorned with emblems of the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals or the Boston Red Sox, among others, all for the low, low price of $4,499.

According to its Web site, Eternal Image's motto is “Products that reflect a life well lived.”

Caskets memorializing your favorite baseball team aren't all the company has to offer either. For the same low, low $4,499, you can get one from the Vatican collection. Or, believe it or not, you can rest in peace in a Star Trek casket inspired by the “Photon Torpedo design seen in 'Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn.'”

If you're an animal lover, you can have an American Kennel Club urn or a commemorative Garden Memorial Marker for your special friend.

According to a local newspaper that covered the MLB casket debut at the NFDA show, caskets memorializing your favorite Natl. Football League and Natl. Basketball Assn. teams also are in the works. College teams, too, are in the pipeline.
