Las Vegas Sands recently has suspended or modified two of its U.S. resort projects:
After a recent agreement to develop the first St. Regis Residences brand in Las Vegas in partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Las Vegas Sands has decided to indefinitely suspend construction of the $600 million, high-end condominium project, to be situated between the Venetian and Palazzo Resort-Hotel-Casino. Construction began last spring on the high-rise development, which was scheduled to open in the spring of 2010 and was to include a 632-foot tower with 398 private residences. Plans are to complete the retail portion of the development in the first quarter of 2009.
Plans for the $675 million Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, in Bethlehem, Pa., have been modified to focus on developing the casino component and related amenities of the resort. To be modeled after Sands’ Palazzo Las Vegas, the 126-acre property, built on the site of a historic steel mill, was planned to include 300 hotel rooms and 46,000 square feet of meeting and convention space. The casino portion is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2009.
MGM Mirage recently has completed room redesign projects at two of its Strip resorts:
Circus Circus Las Vegas has remodeled 999 of its 3,767 hotel rooms. Begun in September 2007 and completed last spring, guest rooms in the West Tower now feature a modern room décor with upgraded amenities and high-tech additions. Circus Circus currently offers 21,400 sq. ft. of meeting and convention space.
Treasure Island Las Vegas recently has completed a remodel of the hotel and casino’s 2,885 rooms and suites. Begun in December 2007 and completed in August, TI’s new room designs include upgraded luxury and high-tech amenities. The property has 18,000 sq. ft. of meeting and convention space.
Harrah’s Las Vegas recently has unveiled its new “M” suite room product. Out of 2,530 guest rooms, 33 suites in the Mardi Gras tower now feature upgraded design and high-tech amenities. Harrah’s contains 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.
Wynn Resort’s Encore Las Vegas now is accepting room reservations for January 2009 and beyond. Situated next door to Wynn Las Vegas and scheduled to open next month, Encore will offer 2,034 luxury suites and 60,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.
