Solar Show Headed to Anaheim
-- Tradeshow Week, 1/12/2009
Like a few other shows serving industries that are rapidly growing, Solar Power Intl. announced this year's show site has changed to accommodate the show's success.
The Solar Electric Power Assn. and Solar Energy Industries Assn., the show's organizers, originally had chosen San Jose, Calif., as the site for the 2009 event, which is the sixth annual one.
However, attendance jumped from 12,500 in 2007 to 23,200 last year, according to show officials, so instead the show will be held Oct. 27-29 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The new location will be able to meet the show's increased demand for hotel accommodations, as well as exhibition and meeting space.
According to show officials, the exhibit floor is expected to sell out quickly because 650 to 800 companies will gather to showcase the industry's technology.
“Solar Power Intl. is the definitive event for global solar companies doing business in North America,” said Julia Hamm, conference chair and executive director of SEPA. “It is our top priority to provide a comprehensive yet accessible program, which serves the needs of an increasingly diverse audience.”
Proceeds from the show are used by the associations to support activities to strengthen the U.S. solar market, she added.
“Despite a challenging economic climate, we have gained significant momentum in the U.S., especially with the recent eight-year extension of the solar investment tax credit,” said Rhone Resch, president of SEIA. “Also, hopes are that a new administration with a commitment to renewable energy and the environment will enact policies that stimulate domestic solar manufacturing and installation, creating hundreds of thousands of permanent green jobs, while increasing our energy independence and security.”
The show will feature keynote speeches from world and industry leaders and more than 60 breakout sessions.
