Two Textile Shows to Collocate in L.A.

In mid-2008, two new textile shows announced they will launch this year in Los Angeles, bringing the city's count of shows in that sector to three.
Now, organizers of one of the new shows decided it will collocate with LA Intl. Textile Show, which has been at the California Market Center since 1993.
Material World & Technology Solutions will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the CMC, instead of at the Los Angeles Convention Center in the same time frame.
“When the opportunity arose to collocate with such a well-established, successful event as the LA Intl. Textile Show, the list of benefits to the industry could not be ignored,” said Tim von Gal, president of MWTS and a partner of Urban Expositions, which owns the show.
“By teaming up, we eliminate market confusion and bring together an unprecedented international product and service resource that promises to become the must-attend event for the sewn products industry,” he added.
The show will feature booths of companies housed in the CMC's Fashion Theater, exhibit hall and new exhibit space on floor 12C, according to show officials. The exhibitor base will include fabric and trimming suppliers, garment manufacturers, information technology solutions, equipment and machinery from providers throughout North and South America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia, show officials said.
The second new show that will launch this year, GlobalTex: LA Intl. Textile & Sourcing Fair, is scheduled April 28-30 at the LACC. The show's owned by Market Center Management Co., which has managed market centers for more than 50 years and has produced more than 50 trade events. MCMC previously managed the California Market Center.
Six years ago, when MCMC still managed the California Market Center, the Textile Assn. of Los Angeles – an endorser of GlobalTex – approached MCMC about starting a textile show there, said Bill Winsor, president and CEO of MCMC.
“Our concern was there was no way to grow the event (at the CMC),” he added. Now, GlobalTex will have that option because of the show's location at the LACC.
“It's pretty phenomenal the response that we've gotten on the launch of this show,” said Cindy Morris, COO of MCMC.
Part of that response is from international exhibitors. The show recently announced a French pavilion, which will have 10 textile exhibitors, Morris said.
GlobalTex is committed to 20 semiannual shows during the next 10 years and also is endorsed by the California Fashion Assn., she added.
