Are you a meeting planner in Canada looking to gain new skills?
Look no further than Ryerson University in Toronto. Meeting Professionals Intl. recently announced the school will be the newest location for an MPI Global Training Center, which will offer a series of certificates and certifications for meeting planners.
The center in Toronto is the fourth MPI has opened, including ones at San Diego State University, CERAM Business School in France and the Qatar MICE Development Institute. MPI officials said they anticipate 15 more centers opening during the next two years through partnerships with educational institutions.
“We are rapidly expanding our available locations for individuals in the meeting and business event industry to receive hands-on education at the local level,” said Didier Scaillet, chief development officer for MPI. “Ryerson University brings over 50 years of hospitality and event management education experience to the table, meeting key selection criteria and making it a perfect fit as an MPI Global Training Center.”
MPI officials said one of the factors when deciding where to locate a center is the prevalence of a “robust” business or management school. Ryerson University has the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
“We are honored to be selected as the first MPI Global Training Center in Canada,” said David Martin, director of the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. “This continues the school’s tradition in staying relevant, responsive and connected to our industry.”
MPI already has scheduled programs at Ryerson: Registration is open for the Global Certificate in Meetings and Business Events II and III, scheduled Feb. 15-19.
“Meetings and conventions are a vital component of a strong tourism industry,” said David Whitaker, president and CEO of Tourism Toronto. “They provide a solid foundation of business for a destination, and having an MPI Global Training Center reinforces the strength of the industry here.”
