Intl. CES Ups Its Gaming Segment

-- Tradeshow Week, 11/9/2009

The Consumer Electronics Assn.'s Intl. CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, scheduled Jan. 7-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, will feature a Gaming Showcase of new gaming technology spread out on 13,000 square feet of showfloor – twice the amount of space of the 2009 show.

This increase reinforces the CEA's claim that gaming software revenue, part of a $23 billion video game market, is set to increase 10 percent this year.

But the show, ranked No. 2 on the 2009 TSW 200, also is expected to fare well overall, with a projected draw similar to last year's 84,308 attendees and 3,072 exhibitors on a 1,857,161 net sq. ft. showfloor, according to Tara Dunion, senior director of communications at the CEA.

“We've seen momentum growing, we're seeing a lot of interest in new attractions we're adding and the show is shaping up to be very exciting,” Dunion said.

According to Karen Chupka, senior vice president of events and conferences at CEA, the show's newly expanded gaming exhibit display, which will be located in the LVCC's North Hall, will feature new gaming hardware and software that will further the show's reputation as the “global hub for the latest gaming trends.”

“We are thrilled to add the PC Gaming Alliance and Lego Universe to the 2010 Gaming Showcase, allowing 2010 CES attendees to experience cutting-edge products changing the gaming market,” Chupka said.

Some of the several gaming exhibitors signed on for the show include D-Box; Dance, Dance Revolution; Guillemot; Iron Will Creations; and Microsoft – Games for Windows and Tritton.
