Smart City’s Flex Plan Works For Oregon CC

-- Tradeshow Week, 5/18/2009

Now, events heading to the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Ore., will have the flexibility to choose between two wireless solutions, instead of one, thanks to Smart City Networks.

Instant Internet will provide attendees wireless Internet connections in public places and meeting rooms, while Exhibitor Internet will provide exhibitors wireless service with greater bandwidth on the exhibit floor.

The idea was to make the offerings more cost-efficient and more flexible, according to Smart City spokeswoman Amy Maier.

Jeff Blosser, the OCC’s executive director, added, “Smart City came to us with new products and pricing that really gave our sales team flexible product options to address the budget-conscious, short-term customer. It really complements our teams’ sales efforts.”

Maier said the new package offering was part of an overall effort to streamline the company’s pricing after it acquired Priority Networks and Convention Communication Provisions in the past few years.

“There were three different pricing models, and we wanted to offer one to all,” she added. “We were getting a lot of feedback that people wanted more flexibility.”

In the meantime, the economy also took a downturn, so Smart City came up with the two Internet offerings for the OCC. Maier said the new packages also are in place at the Reno-Sparks CC in Reno, Nev., George R. Brown CC in Houston and the Walter E. Washington (D.C.) CC.

“We are working with our facility partners to implement the specific pricing options that best fit their customer needs and demographics,” said Mark Haley, Smart City’s president.

Some of the other 43 centers that Smart City services, such as the San Diego CC, Los Angeles CC, Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle, Dallas CC, Fort Worth (Texas) CC, Henry B. Gonzalez CC in San Antonio and Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati also will have the new plans in a few months, according to Maier.

“We would like to do this in all the centers by the end of the year,” she added.
