E³ Mission Accomplished

June 5, 2009

My colleagues Joalien Johnson and Rachel Wimberly came back Wednesday from Expo with their expectations confirmed: The old E³  is back.

You’ll read more about it in their story in the next issue of Tradeshow Week, but suffice it to say that the glitter, the noise, the booth babes – and the excitement – have returned.

You probably already know the back story: The Entertainment Software Assn. and E³ exhibitors decided a few years ago that less would be more. So they revamped and downsized the event, to their ultimate dissatisfaction, and now many of the elements that people missed most are back.

I didn’t visit the showfloor this year, but I have seen the media attention it got. Over the last couple of days, I have seen stories about the latest amazing games everywhere from MSNBC and Fox News to the Wall Street Journal and my local community weekly paper in Northeast Los Angeles.

It was a long trip for the gaming world to take to get right back to where it started but, if drawing attention to its world was the goal, it worked.
