Google continues to change the world
May 29, 2007

A couple of weeks ago Google announced another new horizon for their business model: instant messaging.  If you have not already figured out how to harness the power of Google for your work environment, it is time to get onboard.  Just as the power of Microsoft revolutionized the use of personal computers in the work force, Google is continuing to change the way communities work, communicate and even play.

For the meeting industry, Google’s impact has a more important role.  Tradeshow organizers, event management and corporate meeting planners are challenged to communicate with a variety of suppliers, exhibitors and attendees to pull together a cohesive theme of content, education or presentations with limited personal interactions.  The ease of access to relevant content is where Google is showing our community a new approach.

The ease of advertising to qualified leads is the model that Google has established for some of the new social networking tools.  Even a few tradeshows have picked up on this way of presenting content and exhibitors.

I have always adopted the Google environment and enjoyed watching them grow.  Wish I had invested in their stock.  I would enjoy hearing about examples of the new tradeshow and event tools that have incorporated the Google approach.

In the meanwhile, I will finish linking my Google email service with my Outlook software.  I am not ready to move off my Yahoo account or my Skype program, but the benefits of a single integrated system makes sense as long as performance and reliability is exceptional.  Based on past Google success, the standard will probably be raised.

Tom, I think you have provided a point that is important. Google would never have interest in designing a tool for the niche Meeting industry. Yet it is the template that many innovators, like you, have used to create new online community tools. I look forward to seeing the forthcoming solutions that MatchEvents will be launching this year.
