Very Cool Technology: Razor-thin TV Screen
May 31, 2007

I love my job.

Every day I take time to look for innovations, and it seems like every day I find something new and absolutely cool.  For example, how about a 2.5 inch Sony TV screen with (0.01 inch)-thick display that you can wear like a t-shirt?  How would that change the exhibitor floor?  How about attaching it to your name badge with a built in demonstration of your products and services?

I cannot get over the advancements that are coming to our industry.  The list is extensive: RFID, social networking, plasma messaging centers, dashboard tools, and robust analytical solutions.  All of these products could be working together to make show management easier.  Well, sort of…these tools also complicate the integration challenges.  Sure a cool innovation is nice to have, but how does it play into the overall enterprise system?  I have been on the floor when technology comes crashing down.  It is not a pretty sight.

Don’t misunderstand me; I am all for evolution of show floor solutions.  I just continue to ask hard questions about the business processes that support strategic vision.  No matter how cool, technology for technology’s sake becomes a mere sizzle factor and can not be considered valuable unless it is tied to legitimate business objectives.

I am confident that someone will find the strategic value for the implementation of this innovation into a trade show.  I hope I can obtain a pass for the introduction.

Did I mention how much I love my job?

I think a 2.5 inch TV screen may not seem like it has many business purposes today, but this will definitely be adopted and grow into a viable product!
