Top Technologies for 2008: Online Registration
January 29, 2008
With the launch of the 2008 year, we are exploring the technologies that will have the greatest impact in our industry.
Online Registration
According to the MeetingTechOnline 2007 Meetings and Events Technology Survey, a trend is emerging among show organizers to employ pure online registration systems. While these systems have been available for years, they have only recently begun achieving widespread adoption. As many events do not require the depth of services offered by a full-service registration solution, online registration systems provide more focused and budget-friendly options for event managers.
One of the largest associations, Society of Petroleum Engineers, recently defined a goal to deliver a ‘single point of access interface’ for all of their event constituents. While this objective seems simple, some very complex back-end systems must be integrated to provide single point login for the variety of tradeshows, events and conferences that an organization like SPE supports. Additional logic must be created to differentiate between visitors, exhibitors and attendees. If they find a solution, there is a good chance that many other associations and show producers are going to be very interested in these capabilities.
