If You're Not Growing, You're Dying
July 1, 2008

We all know that we should keep up with the latest innovations.  Staying current on software solutions allows us to handle our own business processes quicker and faster, thus technology just provides us with an overall richer quality of life.  In business, and especially in Tradeshow industry, staying abreast of the latest technological advancements is paramount – if you don’t keep up, you get left in the dust – it’s the evolutionary principle of “Survival of the Fittest”.

While many of these posts have stressed the importance of technology educations, sometimes it is difficult to recognize our environment evolution.  It was only a few years ago that early adopters were harnessing the power of the internet with a computer, a floppy drive, and a telephone line.  Now, it is difficult to find computers that still have functional floppy drives, not to mention dial-up modem connections.  If you want to utilize the internet (or just read this blog), you must be employ hardware with recent software and enough memory to launch a space ship.

If you need more evidence of technology continuing to move forward, just consider the shift from static web pages towards dynamic ones.  HTML, the computer language responsible for displaying documents on and off the web, is slowly being replaced by the new standard in web design, XHTML, along with its metaphorical cousin, CSS.  As a consequence, web browsers must be updated to be compliant with the new rules and regulations regarding this new code.  One such browser, Firefox, released its new version recently with over 8 million people downloading it on the day of its release.

This seismic shift in the way web pages are presented to us is representative of not only the inevitable advancement of technology, but also in how we choose to utilize that advancement.  If we want to enjoy all that technology has to offer, we have to be willing to keep up with it.  If we don’t care about seeing all of the cool new things technology has to offer, well, I guess that old computer with the floppy drive must still work, right?
