A remaining Halloween ghost?
November 8, 2007

This may just be plain spooky to some readers.  I don't belive in ghosts, but maybe I should.

You may recall in my recent post, The Good and Bad of Tech I described a mistaken automated call from an airline which woke me at 4.00AM.  An automated call system has attacked my sleep again.

Last week I travelled to Clarksville, Virginia to present at the Viriginia Chapter of MPI (shout out to my VAMPI friends).  I asked for a 6.30AM conference call to start my day.  I awoke to the call a little groggy, realizing that I might suffer from the one hour difference of eastern to central time zones.  Neverhteless, I had a full day ahead so I jumped in the shower, launched my computer and then called the front desk to ask about the correct time.  To my dismay, it was 4.15 in the morning and I had received a wake up call at 3.30AM.  When seeking a reason, the clerk explained that their automated system had a glitch that sometimes allowed it to make 'ghost' calls at the wrong time.

The initial incident occured on November 1st, three hours and thirty minutes after Halloween had ended.  The next morning, my ghost let me sleep until 5.00am before deciding to call my room again.

As I was checking out, I suggested that they turned the automated call system off until the glitch was fixed.  Other guests may not appreciate the early morning ghost visits...or then again, maybe it is the start of a new marketing campaign to sleep in a haunted hotel.  I prefer the good night sleep.
