When a tornado struck the Georgia World Congress Center at about 9:45 p.m. on Friday March 14, Katy Pando, associate director of marketing for the center, was in her office checking the weather forecast for the area.

Las Vegas Swings Into Action Early
LAS VEGAS—In response to signs there may be some softening in the travel market, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority and its ad agency, R&R Partners, have launched a new campaign to keep business and leisure visitors coming to Sin City even if there is a recession.

Med Shows Stable
Health care tradeshows experienced modest growth in 2007 with net square footage up 2 percent, number of exhibiting companies up 0.9 percent and professional attendance up 3.1 percent. Compared with 2006, when square footage increased 0.7 percent, exhibiting companies were up 2.9 percent and attendance was up 7.

Paper Shows Acquired
U.K.-based show organizer Mack Brooks Exhibitions Group acquired the Intl. Converting Exhibition series of shows from German organizer nimble shows & media. The parties did not disclose terms.
