Fourth Quarter Strikes New Low in All Indexes
Tradeshow Week’s Fourth-quarter Report of Tradeshow Statistics has confirmed what many would have expected: The economic downturn has taken its toll on the exhibition industry, sparing few show sectors. Attendance was down 6.4 percent, net square footage was down 2.8 percent and exhibitors were down 2.3 percent.

Centerplate Slips Out of Public Eye
Centerplate kicked 2008 off with a bang, snagging a 10-year, $300 million catering contract with Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center in January. One year later, though, after it lost a lucrative contract to continue to be the concessionaire at the Yankees' new home and its stock took a beating, the company was acquired by Kohlberg & Co.

Flower Shows Could Bloom for Last Time
The owner of the second and third largest flower shows in the United States is looking for a buyer. If he doesn’t find one, this easily could be the last year for the Seattle-based Northwest Flower & Garden Show and the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

ESA Woos Anchors Back
Like a chameleon and its ever-changing colors, the Entertainment Software Assn. recently reinvented its defunct E³/Electronic Entertainment Expo show once again and relaunched it as the E3 Expo. The move struck a chord with several anchor exhibitors who had skipped out on different incarnations of the shows in the past and now are back on board.
