Vegas Victim of Bailout Backlash
By almost every measure, tradeshow, convention and corporate meeting activity in Las Vegas is down – as it is in most cities. However, in the case of Las Vegas, President Obama may be contributing to the major tradeshow destination's problems with recent comments about the city, which has led to some meeting cancellations.

Attendance Declines Begin to Slow Down at Consumer Shows
In a refreshing change of pace amid news of a dismal economic climate, the consumer show sector of the exhibitions industry reflected some positive growth in 2008. Net square footage and number of exhibitors increased, while there was only a slight drop in attendance.

A Little Peace and Quiet at MAGIC
Even if the event shrank at one of its venues from three exhibit halls last year to two, had noticeably lighter foot traffic and was missing some exhibiting companies, it still was business as usual at Advanstar Communications’ MAGIC Marketplace, held Feb. 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Three Shows Hit by Economic Roadblocks
Cancellation-itis hit hard late last month as, within a matter of days, three shows – one for-profit and two assocation shows – scheduled for later this year or next were postponed or canceled as a result of economic conditions.
