Javits Center Will Grow, But Not by Much
More than a decade after plans were initiated to expand the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center of New York, there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel – albeit a dim one. N.Y. Gov. David A. Paterson announced March 25 a plan to add 100,000 square feet of space, 40,000 net sq. ft. of which will be exhibit space.

Across the Pond Is a Little Sunnier Than U.S.
By the end of 2008, the economic downturn was in full swing in the United States, and even though European and Asian countries’ economies also have been battered, companies such as United Business Media and Reed Elsevier, both based in the United Kingdom, as well as Global Sources, with shows primarily in Asia, have fared relatively well, all gaining in revenue, though some of their profits, too, have dipped.

Exhibitor's Exhibitors Are Staying Positive
The economy might be hitting exhibitors hard, but companies supplying them – those that had booths at Exhibitor, March 22-26 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas – demonstrated elaborate, not diminished booths. In fact, many of the exhibitors said they still were positive about the future, despite the current recession.

Show Organizers Do the Attrition Dance
Not only are tradeshow organizers and meeting planners today worried about drawing attendees to their events, but also they have to worry about attrition fees if they can’t fill their room blocks. Nothing new with that. Attrition clauses between meetings and hotels exist so parties can contract, in advance, how losses might be recovered when rooms aren’t filled as expected.
