Happy Days? Not Quite, Not Yet
As participants streamed into the March 30 opening session of this year’s Society of Independent Show Organizers CEO Summit in San Diego, their small talk and chatter was drowned out by speakers blaring the tune to “Happy Days Are Here Again.”

WSA Shrinks as Small Shows Grow
One big shoe show's losses have become several other smaller shoe shows' gains. The semiannual The WSA Show, whose 2007 editions were ranked Nos. 3 and 5 on the most recent Tradeshow Week 200, saw dips in square footage, number of exhibitors and attendees at both of last year's editions, according to the TSW Quarterly Report of Tradeshow Statistics.

Crowds at Christian Book Expo Disappointing
Not every show that's performed poorly this year is attributing it to the economy. At the inaugural Christian Book Expo, held March 19-22 at the Dallas Convention Center, the “hugely disappointing” turnout of 1,543 people, instead of the anticipated 15,000 to 20,000, wasn't because the United States is in the middle of a recession, said its show manager.

Macworld Shifts Next Year's Dates
Macworld Conference & Expo is scheduled Feb. 9-13 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, instead of in early January when it historically has taken place. The show also will break tradition with the inclusion of a Saturday date, according to the show's owner and production company, IDG World Expo.
