TSW LAS VEGAS: THE INTERVIEW

Teeing Off in Las Vegas

In 2004, a year after Ed Several came on board at Reed Exhibitions to run the PGA Fall Expo, the show moved to Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. It will be back again Aug. 25-27 at roughly the same time as MAGIC Marketplace and Fashion Week.

This year’s show represents a number of firsts: the first time it will be held in August (because, Several said, of customer demand), the first time it will run concurrently with MAGIC (added customer value, he said) and the first time it will have a conference program, with 20 seminars, addressing today’s difficult economic climate.

TSW Las Vegas Editor Rachel Wimberly spoke with Several, recently promoted to group vice president, about what’s on tap for the show.

Question: How did you get involved with PGA Fall Expo?
Answer:
I began at Kraft Foods where I held various promotional marketing positions. From Kraft, I was recruited to join Spalding/Top-Flite Golf where I held the position of vice president of marketing services and exhibited at the PGA Shows.
I was recruited to Reed (Exhibitions) in 2004 with responsibility for PGA Fall Expo and the PGA Merchandise Show. In 2007, I added responsibility for the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Consumer Show in Harrisburg, Pa., and in June of this year, I was promoted to group vice president, adding the Natl. Hardware Show to my responsibility.

Q: When was the PGA Fall Expo launched?
A:
The PGA Fall Expo originated in 1984 as the West Coast Golf Show organized by the PGA of America’s Southern California Section and held at the Long Beach (Calif.) Convention (& Entertainment) Center.
Since then, it has been staged in Nevada and California with its most successful and longest run in Las Vegas, where it continues to serve mostly western United States PGA professionals and retailers.
